Hill College Board of Regents September 2021 Meeting Summary

The Hill College Board of Regents met Tuesday, September 21, 2021, for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting.

Board President David Teel called the meeting to order at 12:24 p.m., followed by the invocation.

Minutess from the August 2021 regular and executive meetings were reviewed. Regent Rick Sullins moved to approve the minutes and Regent Dwight Lloyd seconded. The minutes were unanimously approved.

Billy Don Curbo presented the financial report for August 2021. Regent Tony Marley moved to approve the financial report as given and was seconded by Regent Sullins. The report was approved.  

Dr. Pam Boehm gave the President’s Report:

  • Lizza Trenkle gave an enrollment report, presently down 214 students and 36,000 contact hours. Dual credit enrollment beginning to increase from last spring.
  • Boehm shared thank you cards from several employees expressing their gratitude for the recent pay increase.
  • Boehm shared thank you cards from the families of Lowell (Stretch) Smith and past employee Mary Owens on condolences of their recent passing.
  • Hillsboro Chamber will be hosting a Golf Classic on October 15 - the college will have a team.
  • Boehm has been appointed to the Texas Association of Community Colleges’ Executive Committee and will be participating in a retreat on October 20. She has suggested that the October board meeting be moved from the 19th to the 20th.
  • We Believe Campaign underway. Distributed donation forms to the board members.
  • Burleson Breakfast of Champions to be held October 7 at 7:30 a.m. in Burleson.
  • COVID-19 report indicated 59 cases total this fall and currently four active cases.
  • $3.5 million federal HEERF funds have been disbursed to currently enrolled students due to disruptions caused by COVID-19.
  • Jenzabar One transition will take place the second week in October.
  • TACC legislative handout was distributed, including platform for third special session.
  • Attended Region 5 virtual meetings for athletics.
  • Chris Moore from the City of Hillsboro conducted an interview of Dr. Boehm as part of the Go Hillsboro Committee podcast.
  • Held the first performance of the 2021-22 Performing Arts Series on September 16 - Cara & Friends, an Irish folk band.
  • Constitution Day was held at HCC and JCC. Students had the option to register to vote.
  • Sculptor Michelle O’Michaels spoke with art and welding students.
  • Boehm attended Coffee with the Congressman-Congressman Williams at the Cleburne Civic Center.
  • Recent tours of the CTE building in Cleburne were given to Burleson city officials.
  • Upcoming tour with the president of SWAU at the CTE building to discuss future partnerships.

Paul Brown presented the Athletic Report.

Curbo presented Adoption of the Tax Rate. Regent Bill Auvenshine made a motion to accept the no-new revenue tax rate of 0.085265/$100 and was seconded by Regent Sullins. The motion passed.

Jamie Jaska presented the recent Hill College personnel hires and resignations. Regent Karen Brackin made a motion to accept the recent personnel changes and Regent Kent Eubank seconded. The motion passed.

With no further business to conduct, Regent Brackin made a motion to adjourn, Regent Lloyd seconded. The meeting adjourned at 1:05 p.m.
